About the company
Senga is a Nairobi-based technology-enabled logistics services and software company that is transforming how goods are moved across the formal retail sector. We have spent time building out logistics processes and networks to help our customers not only move things faster, but also to change what traditionally has been an anxiety-inducing experience to what we call a “Ship Happy” Senga experience. We believe in having only happy customers, and all our efforts are put towards that. We are excited about spreading this out across customers and
consumers in our ecosystem and are building a team of people sharing this mission.
Our environment
We are a young, agile company going after a large opportunity and we aim to be the best logistics services and software provider in Africa and beyond. We are trying and testing new things which means that our environment is ambitious and at-times unpredictable.
About the role
You have an owner mentality. You will complement our sales team and be hands-on. You are a great listener and coach, and a warm knowledgeable voice, for customers and team members. You have high emotional intelligence and are able to hear what isn’t said. You are process oriented and organized. Our customers will have full confidence in you and us through your interactions with them. Our customers will feel taken care of when interacting with you. You will always go the extra mile and do what it takes to ensure that Senga understands our customers’ needs, and that we succeed. You are flexible and build productive, trustworthy relationships with our team and our customers. You are an autodidact; product, market and environmental knowledge are key for this role, and not all of these can be directly imparted by the executive team.
What we are looking for in you (the short of it)
You have:
- Experience helping or leading a start-up into growth-phase sales; we want you to help our scaling efforts
- Excellent communication ability, including when under pressure or in a crisis
- A record of outperformance in previous roles; this is non-negotiable
- An ability to train and nurture team members to bring the best out of them
- Experience building and/or running a sales team, including sales planning, territory design and mapping, quota and compensation setting, hiring, and headcount planning is preferred but not required
- A strong drive to succeed, and hold yourself and others to high standards
- Infallible ethics and integrity
- Experience selling services and/or software
Qualifications (the long of it)
- 4+ years of experience in a senior sales role, interacting with senior leaders
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Experience in the logistics, retail, supply chain, or technology (software) industries
- Experience in selling to SMEs & Enterprise clients
- Experience in building, managing, coaching and mentoring sales teams
- Verifiable exceptional achievement of sales goals
- Experience in creating a repeatable and scalable sales process
- Sales metrics analysis experience
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Strategic and hands-on attitude
- Ability to experiment and iterate quickly
- Technologically savvy
- A scientific approach to sales
We also expect the candidate to be:
- Exceedingly committed to hitting aggressive sales targets and outpacing the competition
- Well versed in the renegade sales approaches required in young companies; get hands dirty across the entire sales process
